Most Improved female Athlete

Angel Barkley - Republic Bank

Being the most improved female athlete of CariFin 06, came as a total surprise to Angel Barkley of Republic Bank Limited.

On the whole, she was going about her business as usual…living her lifestyle, training three to four times per week.

Then on Wednesday 29th March, 2006 for CariFin One Lap Savannah Run, she obtained the most improved time from 2005 to 2006 by a female athlete.

In 2005 she did the “One Lap Savannah” in 26.03 and in 2006 she improved to 23.03; which was an overall improvement of 3 minutes 28 seconds.

CariFin Roving reporter caught up with Angel and asked her the following questions.

 

Q. You did … around the queen’s Park savannah in 2005 and …. In 2006, what was responsible for the improvement?
A. Dedicated training

Q. how does it feels to be the most improved runner in CariFin for 2006?
A. Great! Wasn’t looking to be considered in that category

Q. How did your peers react to you winning the "most improved" title and in by extension your institution?
A. Shocked, but very happy. Overwhelmed

Q. How do you see winning this trophy helping you to be more motivated?
A. It gives me the strength to do even better in 2007

Q. how long have you been running and what other fitness activities do you does?
A. Not long. Only started back last year after a break of about 7yrs. I also cycle, kayak and a jet ski

Q. Why have you taken up running?
A. To keep fit

Q. you seem to be the kind of person who enjoys the outdoors and being active, what kind of advice would you give to people who work in this high stress industry of finance?
A. Get out and exercise/train. Find the time to do it at least twice a week

Q. what is your personal philosophy about health and fitness?
A. Moderate exercise with a balanced diet will have you feeling

Q. How has your running been going for 2006?
A. Not much being done, concentrating more on cycling

Q. Do you think our idea of recognizing and awarding a trophy for the "Most Improved Athlete" would help in getting more people to stick with their fitness programs?
A. Yes, it has me counting down the time before I start training for 2007

Q. What about sports, the outdoor and running in particular that brings you so much personal satisfaction?
A. Being fit

Q. what’s your pet peeve?
A. Can’t think of any now

Q. If you had the power to change anything in this world what would it be?
A. All that is evil

Q. what are your goals for running?
A. Improving and lengthening my time spent running time

Q. You seem to have a pleasing personality, reflected by your quick smile, but what are you really like?
A. Just as you described. I try to please everyone and most times  Keep a smile on my face. J
