30 Days to Go!

30 days to Go! To CariFin!

A lot of excitement and anticipation is building as the day of CariFin is fast approaching. Those who know about the event are in full training to probably improve their times, ranking and fortune in the CariFin.

But they are the “converted”. What about the new members of staff or probably the late adopters and the un-initiated?

The thing we got to worry about is – What are the participating institutions doing to promote and to bring awareness to the fact that CariFin is fast approaching?

We would hope that the wellness programs or committees would use the momentum of upcoming CariFin and kick start some kind of activity that would regenerate more interest back into the event. Maybe some forward thinking managers would see this as a good opportunity to launch their own internal program that would have staff on their feet exercising and keeping fit in preparation for the upcoming range of activities that is the CariFin games the number one inter-financial fitness and sporting event.  CariFin is fast approaching!

What is really going on to promote the event at this stage as we are approaching the 19th Edition of these games? The organizing committee is meeting weekly to prepare for these games with all the major financial institutions on board. Even so, what complementary activities are going on within the institutions to promote CariFin 2010?

For starters I know Republic Bank’s HR department has started an initiative called step by step to encourage the staff members to use the steps more instead of the elevators and this has been a hit with the people at the Park Street branch.

First citizens have called in the trainers to whip there staff into shape with various programs for wellness and fitness.  CLICO also seems to be doing something similar. Central Bank with its in-house facilities has maintained, somewhat, the carnival momentum. Their inter-regional games is fast approaching this Easter in Guyana and teams are briskly at it getting and keeping themselves in top “fighting” shape. Also the people at St. Vincent and Independence square have gone ahead and launch the very popular “Biggest Loser Competition”, a fun way for staff to lose weight. GHL is suppose to have its famous group training running that has seen them dominating at the Urban challenge and having quite a visible and sensational presence at Sevilla.

CITI is sitting around the “Round Table” of the organizing committee of 2010 and we know they would come up with an innovative plan to get the natural energy of the staff vibrating to high levels of anticipation in time for CariFin. RBBT has the luxury of having the top male cross country runner among its fold and is ready to score four in a row and join the only two other men who had that Curtis Cox and Lander Rodney while passing Joel Bharat the former First Citizen’s front man who has three wins to his credit.

A brief chat with Nikosi Mc Leish.

3/25/2010 8:47:10 AM

Just had a little talk with Nikosi Mc Leish this morning about things in general and how running is coming along.

In the mix he told me that he would be doing a few of the NAAA development meet runs. Last month he did 3,000 meters in 10.12 at those Meets and this Saturday he would be in the Hasely Crawford Stadium running for the first time on track the 5000 meters.

It would be interesting to see the track time for the 5,000 meters he would post. He has been doing a lot of speed work so far in training, like miles and 800 meters repeats etc.

He is enjoying the excitement of track running and looking forward to getting faster.
He has a sub 17 minutes timing on the road and looking to get faster.

His best time for the Queen’s Park Savannah is 13.13 which he did last year it would be interesting to see if he can go below that time and by how much.
