Clem
Jubrasingh has won the most improved
title in 2006 for CariFin 2006. This
title represents the athlete who show a
level commitment and desire to continue
maintaining their personal level fitness.
Clem has the kind of passion that
distinguishes him from the casual
weekend warrior, someone who goes
out there and put in threes to four days
per week of activity to maintain and develop
his
fitness.
To
express his views on winning this title
we tracked down Clem for this interview
.
Below are the details
Q. How long have you been
running?
A. I have been
running as long as I can remember since
I was very young. So it has been in
excess of 40 years.
Q. how/when did you start running?
A. When I was
very young, I was always encouraged by
my brother to take part in running
events. I always enjoyed running and one
can say that it did not take much effort
and it came naturally.
Q.
what is your personal philosophy about
health and fitness?
A. One can enjoy good health by being
physically active and caring for their
body by avoiding the things such as
alcohol and tobacco that harm the body
and get a proper night’s rest.
Q.
What is your highest achievement or
greatest moment in the sport?
A. There are many in various sporting
disciplines, but probably my greatest
was being the Victor Ludorum for three
consecutive years at the bank’s sports
day.
Q.
How has your running been going for
2006?
A. It’s been progressing very well and I
am working towards achieving better 5K
and 10K times later in the year.
Q.
Have you ever done the marathon? How
many times? What is your best time?
A. I have not tried a marathon as yet
but have given it some consideration
within the last year.
Q.
Do you think our idea of recognizing and
awarding a trophy for the “Most Improved
Athlete” would help in getting more
people to stick with their fitness
programs?
A. It is a good motivating factor that
will encourage others to maintain a
programme throughout the year. Sticking
with a programme will definitely
contribute to improving one’s physical
fitness and at the same time improving
their running times.
Q.
what was responsible for you making that
jump from …. To ….. in the one lap
savannah?
A. In 2005, over the Carnival weekend, I
damaged my left hamstring muscle while
doing speed work training in preparation
for the CLICO 5K. I had to attend
therapeutic sessions for about three
months. From there, I started basically
from scratch with walking, power
walking, slow jogging until I was able
to run longer distances as increased
speeds. So in 2005, I was power walking
and now in 2006 I have resumed running.
This has been the reason for my
improvement.
Q.
what would like to see changed or
implemented to improve the level of
fitness for the general staff within the
financial sector?
A. By organising regular activities
thought out the year in various
disciplines for staff or by forming a
group where staff can be encouraged to
workout two/three times per week.
Q.
what are your goals for running?
A. My goal is on reducing my times to
the level before my injury.
Q.
what advice would you give to
runners to stay healthy and stay focus
on their goals?
A. By setting personal goals, get into a
routine to exercise at least three times
per week, eat a balanced diet, avoid the
junk food and alcohol and take some
supplements to assist with any
deficiencies in your diet.
Q.
How have dealt with injuries in your
running?
A. By resting,
therapy and following the advice of the
therapist for returning to good health.
